Fastest Arm: South Africa, Kalehong, September 2016

Leigh and I went to Cape Town for 2 weeks to do catching clinics and fastest arms programs.  It has been 21 years since I was in the Western Cape.  I forgot how beautiful it is and how much I missed this part of RSA.  We went to several schools and did week long training camp with some awesome athletes, coaches, and parents.  The Turbojav / mini javelin was started in Kalehong Township in 1991 and grew into worldwide event. Our good friend Nico Olivier invited us to come visit and appreciate all the work that went into this trip.  We found lots of talent and interest in rebuilding athletics programs in Western Cape and hope we can build this into long term program.  The best part of the trip was meeting Paralympic javelin medalist.  They brought her down to meet us and do interview with newspaper.  We met each other and I thought she was familiar looking but could not place it. As we talked I mentioned my coaching the 1996 Paralympic team and coaching Fannie Lombard.  She looked at me in shock and told me I gave her Turbojavs back in 1996 and she started throwing javelin because of that meeting so long ago.  Then it hit me, it all came flooding back into my memories and she was coached by Fannie after that day.  How cool was that. 21 years since we met and she became world class Paralympic athlete.  The next day a big article was done in national Newspaper with our story.  We met so many old friends we have not seen in many years. We look forward to coming back in near future and building the throws programs in Western Cape.

Fastest Arm: USA, San Diego,  October 2016

The San Diego Kids Expo and Fair was a fun filled two day throwing extravaganza!

The fair is held twice a year and has many kids sports activities such as soccer, baseball and American football. It was the first time that an event of track and field was included at the expo, and drew a lot of attention. It was our oficial launch of “Fastest Arm USA” that will be promoted in other Kids Fairs over the next year.

With over a thousand kids ages 3 to 17 during our two-day event, we had amazing days teaching everything from speed and accuracy to how to throw the farthest distance. Thousands of parents visited the Fastest Arm area had a great time with their children and the enthusiasm was felt. The organizers asked us to be present in the Spring Event which is held outdoors and is much bigger and includes more activities.

A number of athletes we tested had scores well over their expectancies. Kids of all ages and abilities got to test their skills and had the time of their life
