TURBOTARGET

The objective of the Turbo Target games is to learn how to work on your accuracy, so the athlete throws on a straight line at the target, like throwing darts at a dart board. Athletes must first develop these skills for both weak and strong sides, as the athlete gets better you can increase the distance between the athlete and the target. Throwing a javelin requires the athlete to keep the javelin in alignment with the target. Coaches should be teaching the Turbojav to be thrown over the shoulder and center of gravity. The point of the Turbojav must be aimed at the target and the non throwing hand should be pointing at the target as well. If the Turbojav goes out from the alignment, it will be hard to throw well. The weak side throwing teaches the strong side throwing where the optimal release point is for the Turbojav. Practice makes perfect, practice perfects the skills.

Turbo Target Scoring

Standing, one step, three step, five steps throwing should be done as you build up to full throw.

Open space or field (indoors or outdoors)– this could be in your back yard, school gym, open field, basketball court.. etc.)

Find a target- you can use our bullseye target (tape it to a wall)

You can also use a basketball net, garbage can (empty one please!), or something to aim at in an open area.

Score card – if you are playing with friends you want to keep track of your scores.

point if you hit the backboard, side of the can, or outer ring on the target.  2 points if you hit the rim, or middle ring of the target. 3 points if you get it in the basket, can or hit the bulls eye.

PLAY until winner gets 5, 10, 15, or 20 points depending on the difficulty.

NOTES: To increase difficulty move back from the targets in increments of 1-5 meters, you can also turn a standing throw into a 1, 3, 5, or 7 step throw.

HOW TO PLAY (play to 10 points)

  1. Start in the standing position at least 10 meters from your target (you can use cones to mark your starting point.)

  2. Without taking any steps aim and throw at the Target. Take 3 throws in a row.(Remember to keep track of your points)

  3. Go retrieve your Turbojavs and hand it to the next person. (Repeat step 2)

  4. The athlete with 10 points first WINS.

  5. After you master that distance move back to test yourself at farther distances

Turbo Golf

NEEDED:

1. Open space or field (indoors or outdoors)– this could be in your back yard, school gym, open field, basketball court, etc.) You want to find a place with multiple targets!

2. Find your targets (pick 3-10)- Your targets can be trees, flags, cones, ect. They can be short, medium or long distances apart.

3. Score card – if you are playing with friends you want to keep track of your scores.

-Points work like golf where you count how many throws it takes to get you to hit the first target.

   - Keep track of how many throws per targets. NOTES: With difficult distances of targets you can increase your steps to 1, 3, 5, or 7 step throw.

BENEFITS:

  1. Increases accuracy

  2. Helps hand eye coordination

  3. Teaches basic throwing motion (coming over the top NOT around)

  4. Forces you to learn the CORRECT way to aim and throw

HOW TO PLAY

  1. Once you found an area with a number of targets the first person with throw once.

  2. Thrower 2 goes next, then the rest of the throwers until all have thrown.

  3. Thrower 1 throws again if they have not hit the target yet, followed by the rest.

  4. Each throw is 1 point to the first target. Once you hit the target you stop counting. A hole in one would be 1 point.

  5. Once every thrower has hit the first target you move on to the second target. Start all over counting (like in step 4) DO NOT FORGET your points from previous targets.

  6. Continue playing for as many targets as you want to play

  7. At the end add up all your points and the thrower with the least amount of points WINS.

  8. Don't forget to play with your weak side!
